When we’re suffering, we often struggle with black and white thinking or rigid associations (limited ways of making meaning of what is happening). While there are very good reasons why we do this, it’s also important to recognize when our coping strategies have become obsolete and no longer protect us but rather perpetuate our pain. Building a route to more effective coping involves slowly finding new ways to process our pain. If this is where you find yourself, it may be helpful to swipe through the slides and find a cognitive statement you can let in, even if it feels like only a small bit gets through to your inner world.
